There are many definitions/variants of Natural Ponds and their uses.
From ponds that are used for swimming to ponds in housing estates. The sole purpose is to filter the water by natural methods i.e., plant beds or reed beds, where the contaminated water that is in the pond can be filtered by the plants and thus cleaning the water. In a suds containment pond the contaminated water enters via roads and paths, then goes through the plants/reeds and then returns cleaned into a stream or water course. This is a natural filtration method, and in many cases, this helps with wildlife habitats. All spances of water, where plants exist, do require a level of annual maintenance, some more than others.
A Suds Containment Pond also has a wildlife habitat function, and in some cases a possible future flooding issue if not maintained correctly, which could be a harsh sting in the tail for some householders with insurance companies.
If a suds pond is not correctly maintained/managed, the plant life can get out of hand and fast take over a pond. When this happens, it can compromise the outlet point/s and if not addressed, when we get very heavy rainfall all the water goes into the containment pond from the roads and pathways but cannot exit the pond. The overgrown plant life can cause the water to rise quickly and overflow, in some cases overflow back on-to the roads and pathways, and then possibly into your home. When this issue is not correctly managed, insurance companies can refuse pay-outs due to the suds pond not functioning correctly. This will be cited as lack of the correct maintenance.
Its not a case of just cut this back ? or just pull this out and everything will be fine. The reason we exist is that there is a team of fully knowledgeable experienced staff to do what is required in the correct manner, which not only looks after the wildlife habitats, but also helps against possible future flooding. Which as you know the UK is experiencing more heavy rainfall year on year due to our climate changing.
So I would urge you to act now and not when it's to late....
